Venable Joins American Fintech Council (AFC) Legal Advisory Committee to Drive Regulatory Clarity and Strategic Guidance for Financial Innovation

National law firm brings top-tier consumer finance compliance, payments, and data protection expertise

Washington, DC (August 25, 2026) – The American Fintech Council (AFC), the largest industry association representing both responsible fintech companies and innovative banks, announced the addition of Venable LLP to its Legal Advisory Committee. Venable’s team of more than 900 professionals delivers comprehensive legal services globally in regulatory compliance, government affairs, corporate and business transactions, intellectual property, and complex litigation. Venable will lend its strategic counsel as part of AFC’s Legal Advisory Committee to help shape balanced public policy and guide the industry through an increasingly complex regulatory landscape being interrupted by new technologies.

“As the regulatory environment surrounding financial technology continues to shift with the introduction of new technologies and services, having seasoned legal minds who understand both public policy development and operational realities is vital for AFC’s continued success,” said Phil Goldfeder, CEO of the American Fintech Council. “Venable’s premier regulatory compliance practice, deep government affairs experience, and proven track record in consumer protection make them an outstanding addition to our Legal Advisory Committee. Their perspective will be invaluable as we continue to work to champion transparent and consumer-centric standards across the entire financial services and fintech ecosystems.”

Venable’s financial services and regulatory practices counsel fintech innovators, bank partners, payment platforms, and established financial services institutions on navigating federal and state oversight. With extensive experience across CFPB and FTC regulatory frameworks, privacy and cybersecurity, commercial payments, advertising compliance, and legislative advocacy, Venable helps clients proactively mitigate risk, engage effectively with regulators, and execute complex commercial strategies in an evolving market.

“Joining the American Fintech Council’s Legal Advisory Committee aligns with Venable’s commitment to helping financial innovators grow with confidence and successfully navigate complex legal and policy environments,” said James Williams, Counsel at Venable. “Responsible innovation requires a forward-looking approach to compliance, consumer privacy, and regulatory engagement. We look forward to collaborating with AFC leadership and fellow committee members to address emerging regulatory trends and build a legal foundation that supports sustainable industry growth.”

A standards-based organization, the American Fintech Council is the largest and most diverse trade association representing financial technology (fintech) companies and innovative banks. On behalf of over 150 member companies and partners, AFC promotes a transparent, inclusive, and customer-centric financial system by supporting responsible innovation in financial services and encouraging sound public policy. AFC members foster competition in consumer finance and pioneer products to better serve underserved consumer segments and geographies.
