Statement from Phil Goldfeder, CEO of the American Fintech Council (AFC), on the House Financial Services Committee Passage of the Bipartisan Earned Wage Access Consumer Protection Act

“The American Fintech Council thanks Representative Steil for his continued leadership on the Earned Wage Access Consumer Protection Act, and we commend the House Financial Services Committee for thoughtfully taking up and advancing this important bipartisan legislation. Responsible EWA enables workers to access wages they have already earned between paychecks, helping them manage cash flow, avoid unnecessary fees, and reduce reliance on higher-cost alternatives. This legislation recognizes the unique nature of EWA and establishes a national, consumer-focused framework with clear disclosures, credit invisibility and no-cost access options.

“As millions of Americans increasingly rely on Earned Wage Access, Congress has an important opportunity to provide lasting regulatory certainty for workers, employers, and responsible providers. Creating a clear federal standard for EWA will establish consistent rules of the road that protect consumers while supporting responsible innovation. AFC looks forward to working with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to pass this critical legislation into law and strengthen financial outcomes for families nationwide.”
