Statement from Ian P. Moloney, Chief Policy Officer of the American Fintech Council (AFC), on JPMorgan Data-Sharing

The American Fintech Council (AFC) and its members are committed to advancing open, secure, and competitive financial options, ensuring consumers retain full ownership and control over their personal financial data.

Once again, JPMorgan is putting artificial barriers in place for everyday families who just want seamless access to and control over their own financial data. Whether it's imposing hidden access fees or manufacturing deliberate friction through forced re-confirmations, the underlying strategy hasn't changed: protecting legacy market power at the direct expense of consumer choice.

Let’s be clear—consumers, not mega-banks on Wall Street, own their financial data. Disrupting access to modern, trusted fintech tools under the guise of security limits competition and penalizes millions of hard-working Americans who rely on these services every single day to manage their money and build financial health. AFC will continue to fight for clear, consistent rules of the road and an open banking ecosystem that respects consumer rights.
