Leading fintech industry association hosts the largest and most important regulatory and policy discussions of the year
Videos of more than a dozen conversations with policymakers, regulators, consumer groups and the biggest names in fintech are now available online
Washington, D.C. (November 21, 2023) – The American Fintech Council (AFC), the premier industry association representing responsible fintech companies and innovative financial institutions hosted their successful 7th Annual Fintech Policy Summit at The Westin Washington, D.C. City Center on Tuesday, November 14th. Powered by Fintech Nexus, this year’s summit was the largest fintech policy event since inception, bringing together the biggest companies, regulators, policymakers, and stakeholders in the industry.

This year’s Summit kicked off at 9:00 am and included prominent industry leaders, regulators, policymakers, academics, lawyers and consumer advocates and remained at capacity through Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Rohit Chopra’s final keynote and fireside chat at 5:30 pm. The crowd enjoyed a packed program that included more than a dozen sessions, including fireside chats with former FDIC Chairman Jelana McWilliam, leading Earned Wage Access (EWA) company, Earnin CEO, Ram Palaniappan, fintech founder and Upgrade CEO, Renaud Leplanche and government leaders like Nebraska Congressman Mike Flood and Chief Payment Executive at the Federal Reserve, Mark Gould.

As it has in the past, the Summit provided opportunities to share insights, propose standards, and provide a comprehensive overview of the current and future state of the fintech industry and regulatory best practice. Panel presentations included expert led discussions on BaaS and embedded finance, state regulatory actions, the latest in payments, EWA, BNPL, third-party risk management and AI and alternative data in underwriting. Senior regulators from the Federal Reserve, OCC, CFPB, the Department of the Treasury, CFTC and National Economic Council also took the main stage to discuss novel bank activities and regulatory modernization.
In addition to the main stage programing, this year’s summit also included 7 unique roundtables where industry and subject matter experts convened for off the record conversations to discuss specific industry challenges and propose solutions.
The summit convenes at a critical juncture as fintech regulations are at an inflection point and regulatory certainty is paramount. The event created a platform for the broader fintech industry to network, collaborate, engage, and support core principles of leveraging technology to develop financial tools that offer affordable, transparent, and responsible products, as well as advance financial inclusion and racial equity.
