Premier fintech industry association representing responsible and transparent financial technology companies to host the largest and most important regulatory and policy discussions of the year
AFC will convene policymakers, regulators, consumer groups and the biggest names in fintech at The Westin Washington, D.C. City Center on November 19, 2024
Washington, D.C. (February 22, 2024) – The American Fintech Council (AFC), the premier industry association representing responsible fintech companies and innovative banks, is proud to announce the 8thAnnual Fintech Policy Summit to be hosted at The Westin Washington, D.C. City Center on Tuesday, November 19th. This year’s Summit is set to be the largest fintech policy event since inception, bringing together leading companies, regulators, policymakers, and stakeholders in the industry.
“The timing of this year’s Summit, following what is likely to be a chaotic election season, makes the dialogue and conversation so much more important and will enable us to discuss the future impact on fintech policy,” said Phil Goldfeder, Chief Executive Officer of the American Fintech Council. “AFC works tirelessly with regulators and policymakers to foster and advocate for a regulatory environment that propels innovation without compromising on consumer protection. Our Summit is an important opportunity to advance that conversation with the most influential regulatory and industry participants.”
The Summit will convene at a critical juncture that could impact the short- and long-term shape of fintech policy making and regulation.
“The AFC Summit this year will provide a venue for the most prominent elected, agency, and corporate thought leaders in the industry to discuss the current and future states of fintech, against the backdrop of the outcome of one of the most pivotal elections of our time,” said Martha O’Malley, Chairwoman of the AFC Board. “The AFC Summit will bring together those who are developing the most exciting and innovative products - and their advocates, sponsors, critics, and regulators - to reach all consumers across the country, wherever they are in their financial journey.”
This year’s Summit will include prominent industry leaders, regulators, policymakers, academics, lawyers, and consumer advocates, amongst others. As it has in the past, the Summit will provide opportunities to share insights, exchange ideas, and provide a comprehensive overview of the current and future state of the industry.
“We have been sponsoring and attending the policy summit since inception and it quickly became one of the key and most important policy events our Government Relations and Public Policy team attends every year.” said Ulrico Izaguirre, SVP, Government Relations, Public Policy and Social Impact at Affirm and the Chairman of the AFC Board Policy Committee. “It is now my pleasure to play a leading role in AFC and help develop the program and agenda to increase engagement and further develop industry standards that clarify responsible fintech products that enable continued access to responsible financial services.”
In 2023, the 7th Annual Summit included CFPB Director Rohit Chopra, Congressman Mike Flood, senior regulators from the OCC, CFTC, Federal Reserve, Treasury Department and the National Economic Council, in addition to top industry leaders including Ram Palaniappan, CEO of EarnIn and Renaud Laplanche, CEO of Upgrade. AFC members are committed to working with policymakers to create an appropriate framework to foster responsible innovation in financial services. Now in its 8th year, the Summit continues to be the premier destination for regulatory thought leadership and industry best practice.
